Our Travel Plans for Summer 2015
I feel like I’m spending every spare minute on planning our holiday at the moment so it only seemed right to write about it and share the process with you. I’m also hoping you might have been to some of these places and have some tips for us!
We’re heading out to Brussels late on evening in early August and will be there for a couple of days. This is what started this whole holiday! We’re going to visit one of Ashley’s friend up near Liverpool and so decided to see if there were any cheap flights available from airports up that way. Turns out Manchester to Brussels was £22 one way for…pretty much the whole of August! So, naturally, we took it. I LOVE Brussels! And Belgium in general. But Ashley has never been so I’m super excited to show him the sights and to sing Formidable like a drunk Stromae. Also, I say show him the sights – I’ve never seen half of the things I want to see myself! We’re excited to see Manneken Pis and to visit the Comic Strip Museum. I say we, I think Ashley might be more looking forward to the moules frites and bière.
From Brussels, we fly to Vilnius. Again, for no apparent reason other than it was the cheapest flight out of Brussels to a place we’ve never been. We’ll probably be in Vilnius for a couple of days (hopefully with a little trip to Trakai) before heading to the Curonian Spit. Ever since I told Ashley that you can cycle the Spit, this is the part of the holiday he’s been looking forward to the most. But to be honest, I’m worried about the distance. (I have literally no perception of distance. Or weight for that matter.) I’ve set aside a few days for the Spit – enough to have one day travelling there from Vilnius and a night in Klaipeda, one day biking down the Spit, a night in Nida, and one day to bike back up. Is that enough? Will my little legs hold out? I don’t even know what I’m signing myself up for here.
From there we’re planning to head to Šiauliai for a trip to the Hill of Crosses. I’m pretty excited about this bit.
Am I right in thinking we can get from Šiauliai directly to Riga? Riga seems like a great place to rest it out for a few days and stay in one place, especially after all that cycling. We might spend some time at Jūrmala or Sigulda too. Will we be feeling in need of spa or adventure? We shall see.
From Riga the plan was to hit Pärnu for a day or two and enjoy the beaches and water park, but we’re a tad short on time so will probably just go straight to Tallin from Riga. Will we be missing out on much if we skip Pärnu? We fly back to London from Tallin late August, but not before a quick hop across the water to…
Eek! I’m so excited about this! After years of wanting to visit Scandanavia and already getting lucky and getting a glimpse at both Copenhagen and Mälmo earlier this year, we’re looking into a day trip to Helsinki from Tallin! Yay! What would you recommend with just a day to get a feel for Finland?
I hope you enjoyed a look into our travel plans for this summer. Thanks for letting us share with you. Do you have any tips? Share in the comments!
